After months of questions from the basketball pundits and analysts, Bronny James, the son of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer LeBron James has finally announced where he will be playing college basketball.
“This fall, I’m going to take my talents to the western slope, and join Colorado Mesa University,” Bronny said at his commitment ceremony.
In a shocking turn of events, Bronny has opted to skip over playing for larger Division I colleges. The 6’3” point guard had scholarship offers from nearly every college in the nation, but ultimately chose the division II route.
Bronny is a decidedly four or five-star recruit across all recruiting websites. As a nationally-ranked player, he will be the highest-ranked recruit in Colorado Mesa University (CMU) history.
“I don’t want to go to some school that would win even if I’m not there. I want to play for a school, for a team, that I can lead, and hope to take to the promise land,” Bronny said. “Not one, not two, not three, not four, but five championships we will win.”
In the same ceremony, LeBron announced that he would be retiring from the NBA to coach the Mavericks next season. Last season CMU was led by Mike DeGeorge, who proved to be one of the best coaches in the country, winning the conference coach of the year award. Unfortunately for DeGeorge, Lebron James doesn’t come around too often, and the Athletic Department was quick in offering him the job.
“I feel like I have proved to everyone that I am the greatest basketball player ever,” Lebron said. “After I broke the scoring record, I realized that my next challenge is becoming a collegiate coach. The people over at CMU have been awesome in allowing the king and the prince to come through.”
With the breaking news, television network ESPN declared that all of Bronny’s games need to be covered, and the network stated that all of CMU’s home games will be on national TV next season. CMU will be the first Division II school in NCAA history that will have their games broadcasted on national TV.
Lebron and Bronny will be teaming up with rising redshirt juniors, Trevor Baskin, Reece Johnson and Mac Riniker. Baskin was a first team all-conference selection last season, and Riniker was the conference defensive player of the year. Bronny’s run and gun style of play should suit the returning Mavericks nicely.
The next season for CMU basketball fires up again next fall, and hopefully CMU’s newest addition to the team will push them to new heights.
