New fight song written and produced

Colorado Mesa University (CMU) has partnered with local highschool rapper Lil’ Junctionite  to create a new and catchy fight song for the Mavericks in a heartwarming display of community collaboration.

Both the President’s and Athletic Director’s offices believe this change will help foster both school spirit and community engagement by making this change.

“We are always looking to continually grow the university and its support base. By reaching the Grand Junction community at a deeper level through Lil’ Junctionite’s wide following of 20 monthly listeners, CMU is strengthening its roots to the Grand Valley,” Head of the CMU BSing Department Chad Masters said while barely keeping a straight face.

Masters also said that another benefit of  Lil’ Junctionite was that he was the cheapest option. Way to save some dough, Mavericks!

CMU also says that updating the fight song will make it more memorable, as almost no one actually knows the current one, making for a very awkward graduation ceremony.

Students had mixed opinions about the new tune.

“I mean it’s at least better than whatever we had before. ‘Long You May Live’? ‘Fullest Allegiance’? Who came up with that stuff?” Senior Ball Buster Captain Chad Mewer said.

“Wait, we had a fight song?” Junior Skater and Vaper club member John Gunther said.

“Yooooooo this is some straight lyrical mastery. Did Shakespeare write this?” said a student who vehemently claims to not be Lil’ Junctionite.

With the new fight song being adopted, home field and court advantage will mean more for the Mavericks, since people will actually sing the new groovy and hip fight song at the beginning and end of sporting events.

With the new song also requiring more modern musical equipment, a full time DJ has been hired in favor of a band to play and yell the song. Brownson Arena and Stocker Stadium will now be one of the toughest places for opposing teams to play in as players and coaches will be distracted by this beautiful song and not the game.
