The Colorado Mesa University men’s lacrosse team exacted their revenge as they beat Rockhurst University by a score of 13-7.
After recently crossing the 100-goal plateau, senior Steve Brandenburg was ready to leave his mark once again. Brandenburg scored a school-record eight goals in the win over the Hawks and singlehandedly would have won the game.
Brandenburg took 14 shots with 12 of those being on frame in the game.
The Mavericks led 3-0 after the first period and never relinquished the lead. Brandenburg had his hat trick within the first five goals of the night.
Calen Ketcham was the only other Maverick to join Brandenburg with a multi-goal game, he finished with two on the night.
Goalie Remi Reeves picked up the win as he faced 27 shots and saved nine of them while giving up seven goals.
Colorado Mesa lead Rockhurst in shots (39-27), caused turnovers (12-10) and ground balls (32-31).
The Mavericks improved to 5-1 (2-1 RMAC) on the season while the Hawks fell to 5-2 (1-2 RMAC) on the year.
CMU will travel to Alamosa to take on Maryville University in a neutral site game on Sunday, March 12 with a schedule start time of 12 p.m.
