Every Maverick golfer finished within the top-20.
Colorado Mesa University’s (CMU) Women’s Golf Team finished day one of the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invite in first. They ended third in total pars in the tournament with 42, and second in birdies with 12.
Graduate students Randi Kim and Hannah More led the team as they finished tied for sixth. Both shot a 77 in the first round as they were two of the four who tied for sixth.
Kim had 10 pars after along with two birdies as she contributed to the team’s score of 310.
More was the first golfer to tee off for the Mavericks, and she finished third on the team in birdies with three. She ended fourth on the team on the team in pars with seven.
Redshirt sophomore Elly Walters and sophomore Brea Tyrus both had a score of 78 as they tied for 10.
Walters teed off second for the Mavericks and she finished tied for first with a tournament-leading five birdies. She also led the tournament with her average score on holes with a par of five. Walters averaged a score of 4.20 on holes with a par five, scoring one under in four of five holes with par five.
Tyrus was the final Maverick to tee off, and she tied two other Mavericks with 10 pars. She also was one of the seven golfers to finish with 2 birdies.
Redshirt freshman Crystle Querol rounded out the Mavericks lineup of five. She ended the day with a score of 81 as she tied for 18.
Querol was one of the three Mavericks to end with 10 pars on the day.
CMU continues the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invite Oct. 13 starting at 9 a.m.
