With the winter sports soon ending and the spring teams already in motion right now is the best time to catch up on all the sports happening here at Colorado Mesa University. Many of CMU’s athletic programs have had amazing seasons thus far, whether they just started for the spring season or are only weeks away from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournaments.
Swim & Dive
The men and women’s swim teams are headed to Lewisville, Texas on Wednesday for the four-day RMAC Championship. Both the teams have had a great season as both are undefeated in conference matchups and hold divisive victories from the A3 classic from November.

Men’s Basketball
After a couple of rough seasons, the men’s basketball team is currently sitting at 15-8 with a big win against Westminster on Feb 8 and have only five games left in the regular season. They will be heading to Denver this coming Friday to face Colorado Christian University, whom they beat 94-6 on the Feb 2. The next day they will face Regis and will try to avenge the heartbreak buzzer-beater loss from Feb. 3.
Baseball
The baseball team is in the start of their season, and even though they lost their last game, they won their first three by a substantial number of runs. Their next three games will be here this coming weekend at Suplizio Field against MSU Billings.

Softball
The CMU softball team just started their season on Feb. 7 in St. George, U.T. for the Dixie State Courtyard Classic and are off to a promising start winning their first four out of five games. They may have lost their last game against the University of Hawaii at Hilo, but the first four games of their season were won by huge margins; their biggest win being 14-1 against Cal State East Bay. This coming Friday the Mavericks will head to the Cactus Classic in Tucson, Ariz. Their first home games will be March 2-3.
Women’s Basketball
The team to really keep an eye out for is women’s basketball as they currently sitting at 19-2 with only five games left in the season before the RMAC Tournament starts here in Grand Junction on March 5. CMU has had such an amazing season under their belt and some incredible victories, including their most recent 72-59 win against Dixie State. The women’s basketball team is currently averaging 64.2 points and have a total of 1349 points scored so far this season. If the Mavericks continue playing the way they have all year then they will more than likely win their first RMAC title since the 2014-15 season.
