According to the Colorado Mesa University website, the plot takes place in the 1920s, revolving around Millie Dillmount, a young, small town female who moves to New York in search for a man who has money, rather than searching for love. This comedic pastiche musical filled with villains and romance provides a representation of life in the Jazz Age when women were first entering the workplace and rewriting the rules of love.
The lead role, Millie Dillmount, will be played by Carly Nugent, a junior at CMU. This will be Nugent’s first major theatre role at CMU.
With this production being conducted under a new assistant professor, Benjamin Reigel, and choreography produced under new Assistant Professor of Dance Amanda Benzin, the audience is in for a fun filled night full of dancing and a full professional orchestra under the direction of Doug Morrow.
Audience members will be able to see classic tap dancing, singing and acting that has been researched. With constant work on choreography, singing and memorizing lines, this show could be a hit. With both music theater, theater and dance department students, this show incorporates the entire Theater Arts Department.
Show times for this production are at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 22-24 and March 1-3, with an additional matinee at 2 p.m. on Feb. 25 and March 3. Tickets are now available for purchase. Regular tickets are $21 for adults, $17 for seniors, faculty and staff and $8 for students. Student, faculty and staff rush prices begin on Thursday, Feb. 22 and Thursday, March 1.
Rush tickets are $5 with a current MAVcard presented the day of the show. Tickets can be purchased at the University Center information desk during the day, at the Moss Box Office or online.
