Colorado Mesa University (CMU) was able to get two more wins against Colorado School of Mines (CSM) Sunday to get the series sweep.

In the first game redshirt sophomore pitcher Shea Mauser delivered a great pitching game for her team as she would throw a complete game. Mauser went seven innings and threw two strikeouts and only had one earned run but three runs total.

The Mavericks found their bats again in the first inning as they scored five of their seven runs in that first inning.

With freshman catcher Ally Distler, redshirt sophomore outfielder  Lauren Wednmen and redshirt senior utility Brooke Doumer all on the bases, redshirt sophomore pitcher Ellie Smith came up to bat. On the first pitch she saw Smith skyrocketed the ball to center field to quickly put her team up 4-0.

Two batters later, redshirt sophomore third baseman Nicole Christensen hit her first homerun of the season.

The Mavericks did not score again until the fourth inning when they responded to a three run inning by the Orediggers.

Redshirt freshman infielder Aislyn Sharp hit her first collegiate home run to give CMU a 6-3 lead. Doumer then in the fifth hit a homerun of her own to extend the lead to the final score of 7-3.

In the second game, the Mavericks scored in the second as Christensen tripled to right center allowing redshirt senior first baseman Sarah Staudle to score easily. Christensen would round third and ran home on the play but ended up being out at the plate.

Megan Dickson of CSM tied things up in the fifth as she hit a homerun to right field.

Sharp doubled to right center on a 2-2 count as that allowed both freshman infielder Ava Fugate and  Christensen to score, letting the Mavericks take the lead right back.

With the score being 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Staudle hit a two-run home run down the right field line scoring Distler as well. Sharp hit another double to let redshirt sophomore shortstop Ashley Bradford score. The game would finish as freshman outfielder Drew Sims hit into a fielder’s choice that Sharp would score on.

Redshirt junior pitcher Paige Adair got the start in the final game of this series. Adair only allowed three hits over seven innings and struck out two.

The Mavericks continue their season when they take on Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. on March 13 at noon.
