Graduate transfer attackman James Booth made a huge impact on Colorado Mesa University’s (CMU) attack as he scored three goals with three assists. Embry-Riddle University (ERU) had no answer for the Maverick’s offense in the second half as they scored 15 goals to open the game up.

The Mavericks defense caused 28 turnovers with 17 of those coming in the second half.

Senior goaltender Christian Cherry got the start against the Eagles, and he made seven saves while allowing five goals. Senior goalie Remi Reeves saw his first action since his knee injury in 2019 with 12:51 minutes left in the game.

The Eagles shot the ball 26 times in the game, while the Mavericks were attempting every shot they could as they compiled 70 shots throughout the contest.

The Eagles matched the Mavericks output in the first half with four goals each. CMU took 35 shots in the first half, but ERU’s goalie Charlie Wilson saw the ball well and ended up with eight saves going into halftime.

CMU’s offense opened the game up in the second half with 15 goals, but their defense also shut down the Eagles tried on offense. Freshman attackman Jed Brummet scored three of his four goals in the second as he showed off his skill set.

The Mavericks were able to control the game by controlling the ground ball battle. CMU picked up 13 more ground balls than the Eagles. Freshmen defenders Drew and Jake Eickleman led the Mavericks in ground balls with a combined total of nine.

CMU went 3 of 9 on the extra-man opportunity throughout the game, but their offense was firing on all cylinders to get their first win of the season.

The Maverick’s next game will be Feb. 8 at noon against Saint Leo University in Florida for their second game of the three-game road trip.
