The Mavericks improve to 5-3

The Mavericks had seven different players score multiple points in their 17-10 win over the Thunderwolves.

The Mavericks remain undefeated in conference play with their 17-10 win over the Thunderwolves. 

Sophomore midfielders Lauren Wick and Kiley Davis each scored five points in the game, and they combined for six goals and four assists in the game. 

Sophomore midfielder Taylor Jakeman was the second-leading scorer for the Mavericks as she finished the game with three goals and one assist.

Davis scored back-to-back goals with nine minutes left in the first half to put CMU up 9-1. Colorado State University-Pueblo (CSUP) offense tried to gain some momentum as they ended the first half on a four-to-one run to bring them within three points. 

The Thunderwolves came out of the halftime period with the momentum as they scored two goals to put them down 7-8. Wick and Emily Eller traded a goal in the first ten minutes of the second half to keep the game separated by one point.  

Junior midfielder Ashton Whittle got the Maverick’s some momentum as she was able to score off a free position shot with 18:06 left in the game. CMU took their momentum and put up four more goals to extend their lead to 14-8.  

The Thunderwolves worked to get back into the game, but CMU outscored CSUP 3-2 to end the game to earn their fifth win of the season.  

CMU had seven different players score multiple points in the contest.  

Both teams finished the game with 26 turnovers in the game, and the Mavericks ended with a 15 to 12 advantage in the draw control circle.  

Sophomore attacker Melanie Evans and Wentz each finished the game with three points against the Thunderwolves.  

The Mavericks continue their season on Friday, April 23 at 3 p.magainst Adams State University in Alamosa, Colo.
