Junior catcher Spencer Bramwell and junior infielder Caleb Farmer led the Colorado Mesa University (CMU) offense to victory to sweep the doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

It went back and forth in the first game, and Bramwell had the final word as he hit a walk-off single to score Farmer to win 3-2.

Freshman second baseman Jonathan Gonzalez hit a single to start the Mavericks scoring off in the bottom of the fifth on a 2-2 count scoring junior shortstop Chase Hamilton.

Sophomore designated hitter Haydn McGeary responded to a Regis University (RU) RBI double with an one of his own that scored Farmer.

Each team finished with six hits each in the first game. CMU had two errors in the game but they kept their errors from resulting in runs for the Rangers.

The errors came from junior first baseman Nolan Walker who fumbled the ball on an odd bounce. Farmer had an error that caused runners to advance but no harm was done.

With the game tied at two and headed into extra innings, Bramwell hit a game-winning single that scored Farmer.

Junior right-handed pitchers’ Frankie Fitzgerald and Garrett Tisdall continued their dominance out of the bullpen and finished the first game of the Mavericks.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Andrew Morris as he struck out three batters and walked two through six innings.

The second game saw a big no-doubt home run from Farmer in the second inning who has continued to keep his bat hot at the plate. Junior first baseman Jordan Stubbings and junior outfielder Matt Turner scored on the Farmer home run.

The Rangers responded to Farmer’s homer with a two-run shot of their own making it a 3-2 game.

A one-run difference was not enough for the team this time. Senior outfielder Tyler Parker grounded out to the shortstop to score Farmer and advanced senior outfielder Matt Cassin.

A wild pitch in the fifth added to CMU’s run total as Cassin scored. Sophomore pinch hitter Conrad Villafuerte doubled to the shortstop to finish this one for the Mavericks scoring Stubbings.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Jared Ure pitched a complete game for the Mavericks in the second game of the doubleheader. Ure struck out seven batters and allowed four hits.

The Mavericks look to sweep the Rangers at Suplizio Field Mar. 8 at noon.
