The Mavericks hot start on all ends of the field led them to sweep the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) weekly awards for two consecutive weeks.
Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Men’s Lacrosse Team’s offense and faceoff men have dominated their first three games of the season. In their first weekend of play, CMU scored 16 or more goals in each game putting up at least 50 shots per game.
Senior midfielder Johnny Cary and graduate transfer attackman James Booth were the RMAC Offensive Players of the Week for CMU.
Both freshmen faceoff men Cole Emmanuel and Colin Seedorf were awarded RMAC Defensive Player of the Week in consecutive weeks.
Emmanuel dominated the faceoff x, as he won 24 of 27 against SLU while grabbing 19 ground balls. Emmanuel got into his groove against the Lions, as he helped CMU play make-it take-it lacrosse.
Emmanuel scored the first goal of his CMU career against SLU. He won the faceoff beginning to charge down the field with a full head of steam and in five seconds, he buried one in the back of the net.
Cary earned the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honor after scoring seven points against Embry-Riddle University (ERU) and Saint Leo University (SLU).
Cary had five goals and two assists in two big wins for the Mavericks. Cary scored in a couple of ways against SLU and ERU, picking up points off one-on-one dodges and shooting with time and space.
The Mavericks dominant win over Shorter University earned Booth and Seedorf RMAC Players of the Week honors.
Booth led the Mavericks with seven points, scoring two goals and five assists. He led by example with his ball movement, as he picked the Hawks defense apart. Booth has been the driving force behind the Mavericks offense as he leads the team in assists with 11.
Seedorf controlled the faceoff x winning 17 of 22 faceoffs with 17 groundballs which led to being named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week. Seedorf won .773 percent of his faceoffs as he won them to himself each time.
CMU’s next game will be Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. against RMAC opponent Adams State University in their home opener.
