Members of the Colorado Mesa music department participated in the Faculty Gala on
Wednesday, the 15th of September here on campus at the Love Recital Hall.
On a wonderful, late summer evening, students, faculty, and residents of Grand Junction
came out in support of the glorious gala. An estimated crowd of around 100 was in attendance
for a night that effortlessly continued for upwards of two hours.
The gala was the first live, musical performance put on for this academic year by our
music department, and the variety of instruments and singing kept the audience engaged for the
whole evening. The performance covered it all from woodwind, percussion, horns, and all the
way down to the bass leading up to an illustrious, jazzy finish that had the crowd roaring in
pleasure.
To illustrate the overall excitement of the night, I spoke with sophomore Jack Cornell,
who is a business major about his thoughts on the concert after it was finished.
“It had good variety”, Cornell said, continuing on with, “it started off mostly classical and
then had some string, woodwind, and percussion that was all great and then kind of ended with a
bang with some really upbeat jazz”. Cornell also added, “it was really enjoyable, especially
coming from someone that doesn’t really listen to that style of music…”, “It brought a new
appreciation to me for the talent of all these musicians.”, Cornell said.
Overall, the Faculty Gala was one that brought people from all over the community to a
lovely evening of live music, and provided the audience with something unique and exciting here
on campus. Veterans of music and new ears alike got something out of the show as there was
truly something for everyone to enjoy at the Love Recital Hall during the evening of the 15th.
