On Saturday, Oct. 7 at 9 a.m., Colorado Mesa University will be hosting its annual Maverick Mile Fun Run. The event follows the special Friday night speaking event featuring Frank Shorter and Steve Bosley and acts as a part of Parents’ Weekend.
Posters are hanging on the bulletin boards around campus, providing a map of the run, which is all on campus. The description reads, “Bring your family to CMU for the Maverick Mile, a fun run around the perimeter of campus followed by family fun activities on the Plaza.”
The fun run starts at the Plaza, makes its way around Lowell Heiny Hall and the Moss Performing Arts Center. It loops behind Houston Hall and follows the sidewalk along the backside of Tomlinson Library and Wubben Hall. From there, it goes around the Maverick Center and the tennis courts, goes South, through the University Center, and finally ends back at the Plaza.
The Maverick Mile is a free event for all students, parents and community members of all ages who want to walk or run around the main portion of CMU’s campus. There is no prior registration for the fun run, but all participants are asked to meet at the Plaza at 8:30, preferably dressed in their best “Mav gear” for a chance to win a Mav Spirit pack, according to supportingcmu.com.
The Maverick Mile follows “Parents’ Coffee with President Foster” at 7:30 a.m. at the Fireside Lounge in Starbucks. It kicks off a busy Saturday of events, including an Outdoor Program Hike, a football game, a couple performances of the theatre production “A Grand Night for Singing” and more.
As a free event and a part of the annual Parents’ Weekend, the Maverick Mile Fun Run serves as fun for the whole family.
