Looking for something to fill the typical lazy Sunday? Anyone with or without a dog can bring their furry friend to Lincoln Park to participate in the first ever Dog Fest, brought to the Grand Valley by Red Rock Radio Group and Chow Down Pet Supply. The event will take place on Sept. 10 from 12-4 p.m.
Brandon Zinser and Hailey Weddington, mass communication students at CMU, were interning at Red Rock Radio Group when they had the idea to create a dog festival.
“There weren’t a lot of dog events in the Grand Valley. So, we thought, let’s have an event where we get people together to have beer, bring their dogs, and have a place to get together to socialize,” Weddington said.
General admission is three dollars and guarantees entry into a raffle for a year’s worth of premium dog food from Chow Down Pet Supply and a complementary picture with your dog, taken by CMU photographer Ryne Dutcher.
“You’ll receive unlimited beer, a commemorative Dog Fest glass, entry into our grand prize drawing, goodie bags and a complementary picture with your pet,” Zinser said.
Dog Fest has been in the works for several months, with tons of preparation to make sure the event is a success. A portion of the proceeds will be going to Roice-Hurst Humane Society.
“From the very beginning, we knew we wanted to have a charity aspect to this event. We didn’t just want this event to be for nothing. We wanted to give back to the Grand Valley and a non-profit that gives to so much to the Western Slope,” Weddington said.
“We hope to work with Roice-Hurst and other pet-related business in the future to make Dog Fest an annual event,” Zinser said.
