The Cultural Inclusion Council (CIC) at Colorado Mesa University is set to dazzle the community with its 7th annual fashion show on the 1st of March.
The annual fashion show, which will be held March 1, is more than just a display of stylish outfits. It is a celebration created by students and for students to celebrate the diversity of the campus. Each student gets to present unique styles inspired by their heritage, culture and personal experiences. This year’s theme for the show is “Global Glamour: A Celebration of Culture”.
“The fashion show has been an amazing experience for me over the past two years. It’s more than just a fashion show; it’s a celebration of many different cultures and a way to bring people together. It has helped me embrace my roots and wear my cultural clothing with confidence. This event means a lot to the Asian Student Association because it gives us a platform to express ourselves and highlight our community’s diversity,” said Asian Student Association (ASA) Coordinator Pragya Luitel.
Along with giving some students an outlet, it also presents others with the opportunity for growth in recognizing cultures they may have a limited understanding of.
“The fashion show is a great way to express not just everyone’s individuality but also the importance for diversity. It’s a very relaxed and fun way of getting exposure to different cultures here at the school! I know for [Latino Student Association] LSA a lot of people came up to me and were talking about how they loved the clothing types and the music. I’m not sure if they would have gotten that same experience through a good search, you know,” said LSA Coordinator Luis De Loera Lopez.
For international students, the chance to continue to strengthen bonds is a much-appreciated facet of preparations for the show.
“The International Student Alliance [ISA] is a welcoming community full of diverse students from around the world. The fashion show allows us to highlight different cultures and perspectives on the campus and the Grand Valley. This is my fourth year in the CIC Fashion Show, and I look forward to it every year! I have met some of my closest friends through CIC so it’s an honor to be part of this organization and be able to share conversations with extraordinary people!” said ISA Co-Coordinator Nia Taubr.
CIC’s fashion show not only allows students to share their heritage with the community but also allows students to make valuable memories. While creating a space for students to embrace their individuality and authentic identities, the show also exposes the student body to perspectives
