Welcome Back Mavs!

With the winter break in the rearview mirror, students are now back to school. For some, this is their final semester here at Colorado Mesa University, for others, this is their first semester.

How much of a struggle has it been to get back into the swing of things? Personally, as a senior, it was not that hard. I am glad that the semester has finally begun. The hardest part is being prepared for each class and knowing what to expect from the instructors.

“It’s always a challenge getting back into the swing of things and tackling that motivation. But once you get a handle of due dates and get a routine together to balance study time with class and other life it becomes easier and then roll with it.” senior Jasmine Watson said.

For the new students coming in this semester, Welcome to CMU! We know it is going to be an adjustment settling in and getting into the swing of things, but we know you can do it!

For all students, if you have not yet gotten involved in any of the clubs and organizations now is the time. Here at The Criterion, we are always looking for writers, photographers, cartoonists, and graphic artists. There are club sports, Christian clubs, business clubs, and even the fraternities and sororities. Honestly, the list goes on and on. Getting involved not only gives you a chance to make more friends, but also an opportunity for your voices to be heard.

Just a reminder to all students, the last day to add or drop classes is Feb. 6 at 5 pm. To add classes, you will need instructor’s signature in order to do so. For those students who plan to graduate in the fall, you must have your intent to graduate form turned in no later than March 1.  If you have any questions regarding financial aid, registration or student accounts you can go to IRIS, located on the first floor of Lowell Heiny Hall.

For those looking for work or work study jobs, or just looking for a job outside of school, check out Handshake! You can find the link on your MavZone under the applications on your dashboard. On campus and off campus jobs are listed on there. These are employers that are known and are actively seeking students for employment.

For those who are going to be graduating, the Spring Career Fair will be in March. It is also a great chance to network and get your name out there.  Career Services is there to help with resumes, interviewing skills, help with choosing a major, mock interviews and much more.

If you are graduating in May, make sure to check to see what time your graduation will be on Saturday, May 18. This semester’s graduation has been broken into two ceremonies based on the students major. For those graduating with a major in Business, Engineering, Health Sciences and Kinesiology, your ceremony will be at 4 pm. For all other majors, your ceremony will be at 8:30 am. Stay up to date on other important dates like ordering your cap and gown.

Again, welcome back Mavericks! Let’s make this semester one to remember!
