This past Saturday, Colorado Mesa University’s recently-added triathlon teams began their season at the Littlefoot Sprint Triathlon in Lakewood, Co.

The race started off with a 750-meter swim that began and ended at the Bear Creek Marina in Soda Lake. Once this was completed, the triathletes transitioned into a 15-kilometer bike ride that covered a majority of the park. The final phase of the race was a 5 kilometer run on a bike path through the park.

Both the men’s and women’s teams raced among a variety of competitors, ranging from those 15-and-under to those in their mid-80s.

The men’s team was led by Wyatt Colloty, who finished in the top-10 with a time of 1:01:08. He was followed by Ethan McNally in a time of 1:04:33, Ethan Petersen in a time of 1:07:02 and Kyle Jones in a time of 1:07:32.

The women’s team was led by Hannah Brockie in a time of 1:05:02. She was followed by Lindsey Johnston in a time of 1:15:27, Abigaille Young in a time of 1:15:56 and Hana Peterman in a time of 1:17:24.

Head coach Geoff Hanson mentioned that both teams had good showings. The team travels next to Berkeley, Calif. for the NCAA West Regional, which will determine if the women’s team qualifies for the NCAA Championships, held this year in Tempe, Ariz.
