Colorado Mesa University will host “The MAZE” on Sept. 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the CMU University Ballroom. The MAZE is one part magic and another part ministry. Brandon Akins from Master Plan Ministries has been working on the finances and other details for the show.
“This is a free, top level magic/illusion show, with a short encouraging message of Jim Monroe’s life story and struggle with cancer and also an opportunity to sign up as a bone marrow donor if they want,” Akins said.
The MAZE is a touring show and has performances all over the United States. On Sept. 12 they are up at Colorado State University.
“It came to our attention about the third week in July that this event might even be a possibility,” Akins said. “In the past, the organization I am with has tried to get the MAZE to come to one of our campus clubs, but it has never worked out. This time, the MAZE contacted us, and we were able to move forward with booking the event on campus.”
“The timing, Ballroom being open, finances and many other factors have really come together to make this happen. I really am thankful for the student leaders in TNL/Master Plan Ministries club that have put a lot of time into the MAZE event. And also, I am very thankful for all the University administration working so fast and accurately to make this happen. Student Life folks and the UC folks have been working with us in a professional and patient way.”
The MAZE website explains the show as: “A mystery performance piece that has traveled the world, the MAZE has bewildered audiences for the past decade with its unique and innovative approach to entertainment. Magician, Jim Munroe, founded MAZE at the turn of the century. The MAZE now includes magicians Stewart True and Brice Harney, as well as ‘COCO’ the bear.”
Akins broke it down into a sentence, describing it as, “tons of fun mind blowing magic show.”
Akins explained that the performance has top notch illusions, audience participation, something for everyone and will be encouraged about your value.
“I just want to serve well, especially with this big of an opportunity to encourage CMU students,” Akins said. “Their lives matter, have value, and they are not just an expectation or a number.”
