The construction of 7th Street was originally expected to be finished before the beginning of the school year. Due to unexpected delays caused by complications regarding the need to replace a gas line beneath the road itself, the project is now expected to be completed near the end of September.
The construction zone spans from North Avenue to Orchard Avenue. Traffic has been narrowed to one lane in each direction.
As of Aug. 30 the construction crew has made moves to begin its work on the east side of 7th Street after having finalized the west side. This will block the 7th Street entrance to the commuter parking lot behind Dominguez Hall. The Cannell Ave. entrance along North Avenue between Lucero Hall and Roper Music will be the main access point for the commuter lot.
