The Mavericks earned their first win of the season

The Mavericks had three different players score five points in their 16-7 win over Colorado College.

The Mavericks split their road trip 1-1 as they beat the Colorado College (CC) 16-7 to get their first win of the season.  

Three different Mavericks finished the game with five points along with three other Mavericks finishing with multiple points.  

Sophomore midfielder Regan Wentz finished the game with three goals and two assistsSophomore midfielder Lauren Wick contributed two goals and three assists for the Mavericks in the contest.  

Colorado Mesa University (CMU) assisted 11 of their 16 goals in the game as their offensive and ball movement was able to keep the Tigers on their toes.  

Wick got the Mavericks on the board first off an assist from sophomore midfielder Kiley DavisCMU proceeded to go on and score three more goals with three different Mavericks scoring their first goal of the season.

CC answered with a goal of their own as Bella Beattie converted a free position shot to get the Tigers on the board in the game.  

Sophomore attacker Melanie Evans cut through the teeth of the defense and caught a pass from Wick to put CMU up 5-1 with 18:18 minutes left in the first half. Evans scored four goals and assisted on one goal for the Mavericks in the game.  

The Mavericks created some separation in the game as they scored seven more goals in the first half to build a 12-1 lead. CC’s Annie Tucker scored on a free position shot with six seconds left in the half.  

Senior goalie Lula Mitchell played the first half for CMU and she finished the game with three saves. Freshman goalie Adelaine Charlsen played the second half in net for the Mavericks, and she compiled five saves. 

Beattie got the Tigers on the board first in the second half as she converted on a free position shot. Wentz answered for CMU with a goal of her own on a man-up opportunity.  

The Tigers scored again, but the Mavericks answered with two goals to bring CMU’s lead to 15-4. CC scored three consecutive goals with Bridget Hanley scoring the Tiger’s final goal with 3:38 remaining in the game.

The Mavericks finished the game with 16 draw controls. CMU shot the ball 26 times in the game and they got 20 of those shots on goal.  

Davis scored three goals and had one assist in her second game as a Maverick.  

CMU’s next game is Sunday, March 21 at noon against Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.
