The Mavericks scored 31 runs between two seven inning contests against the Orediggers.
Colorado Mesa University (CMU) took game one with a score of 9-1.
Sophomore designated hitter Haydn McGeary got the Mavericks on the board in the first as he hit a two run homerun to center field scoring senior outfielder Tyler Parker. McGeary went 2-3 in the first game.
Two innings later, junior catcher Spencer Bramwell hit a two run jack of his own allowing McGeary to score.
The Mavericks found their last five runs scored in the fourth inning as senior second baseman Blaine Demello singled to score junior third baseman Caleb Farmer.
Bramwell scored Parker and junior outfielder Matt Turned on a long single to right field. Junior infielder Conrad Villafuerte singled to right field allowing McGeary to score once again.
The Maverick bats were on a roll from the start in the second game. After Colorado School of Mines (CSM) scored first in the first inning, CMU responded with eight runs of their own.
McGeary continued to be dominant as he went 3-4 with two RBIs in the second game. The first one came to kick things off as he doubled to right center that let Turner score.
From there things kicked into high gear for the whole team as Parker singled through the left side and got two RBIs of his own. He also hit a two run home run in the second that allowed Bramwell to score.
CMU continued to hit home runs throughout the game. Junior outfielder Tanner Garner hit a grand slam to give the Mavericks a 16-4 lead in the fourth inning. Demello and junior infielders Caleb Farmer and Chase Hamilton all scored on the play.
Junior first baseman Nolan Walker came in in the sixth inning and hit a homerun of his own on a 2-1 count. Redshirt sophomore Jax Nourse came in as well and hit a two run home run of his own to score senior outfielder Wacy Crenshaw.
A total of 19 position players played in this game for CMU.
On the pitching side of things the Mavericks saw control in their pitchers. Junior Left-handed pitcher Ryan Day started the day off in game one.
Day pitched six innings and had nine strikeouts. He only allowed one run but it would not be earned. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Gage Edwards closed this one out with two strikeouts of his own.
Day had complete control of the game from pitch one. He made sure he hit the strike zone but also pitched for contact knowing that he had a strong defense behind him.
Senior right-handed pitcher Trevin Reynolds got the start in the second game. Reynolds threw five solid innings of baseball with eight strikeouts. He only allowed two earned runs and had one walk.
Sophomore Josh Danyliw came into relief and pitched one and two thirds innings only allowing two hits. But ended up hitting two batters. Junior right-handed pitcher Garrett Tisdall came in to close this thing out.
The Mavericks look for the sweep tomorrow at noon in Grand Junction,Colo.
