The Mavericks big lead grew even larger

The men's and women's swim and dive teams both have more than 1,000 points through three days.

The Mavericks domination of the A3 Performance Invite as the men’s and women’s team had a combined 2,201 points through the third day. 

Colorado Mesa Univerity (CMU) men’s team had 1,163 points and the women’s team had 1,038 cumulative points after the final events concluded on Friday.  

In the men’s 400-yard individual medley CMU’s freshman Ethan Fox (4:01.40) and senior Nico Tscherner (4:04.35) took first and second place to give their team a quick 37 points to boost their lead even more.

CMU almost took a clean sweep of all top eight spots in the men’s 100-yard butterfly as they took six of the top eight spots in the final. The third spot on the podium ended up in a tie as CMU’s Tucker Adams and Treven Wertz ended with a time of 49.92.  

The men’s 200-yard freestyle saw the Mavericks take the top four spots in the final as all four Mavericks were separated by less than 2.43 seconds.  

The men’s diving event had again all CMU divers in the final as Noah Macomber (542.20) led the event in total points. The women’s diving event saw Jolynn Harris (450.05) take the top spot over Brittany Dixon (444.15) who won the women’s three-meter diving event on the second day. 

The women’s 400-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly, the lady Mavericks took five of the top eight spots in the final.  

The women’s 100-yard backstroke had freshman Lauren White (55.58) and sophomore Sarah Fillerup (56.11) took the top two spots in the final to add 37 points to the women’s lead.

The women’s 800-yard freestyle relay team made of Maddie Pressler, Abbey Selin, Isabelle Hanssan and Lauren White (7:38.89) won to add 40 points to the Mavericks total. The men’s 800-yard relay teams took first and third as they were separated by less than three seconds.  

Both the men’s and women’s teams won all but three final events as they completely dominated the field on the third day of the A3 Performance Invite hosted by CMU. 

Prelims for day four of the A3 Performance Invite will start at 10 a.m. and the finals will start at 5 p.m. in the El Pomar Natatorium in Grand Junction.
