The Colorado Mesa University Dance Society will be held their student directed, student produced and student run showcase Real Artistic Works for only one night, on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Mesa Experimental Theatre inside the Moss Performing Arts Center.

“I think everyone should come see art and dance and performance because live performances is wonderful avenue to experience things you haven’t experienced before or see things from a different perspective,” Sarah Lachelt, a CMU student and officer in dance society said. Lachelt will perform a duet that is heavily influenced by modern movement.

This single performance consisted of a total of six dances by 10 separate performers. Dances included clogging, which is dance that has been derived from tap-dancing, contemporary jazz, and a few modern pieces. Each dance ran between a total of 1-4 minutes long.

Held in the Mesa Experimental Theatre, the performance  provided an intimate look at dance from all angles. “A challenge for us as choreographers and dancers, to be able to face your audience at all times” Lachelt said.

The performance was directed by Dance Society Vice President and senior at CMU Olivia Crochet. “It is not something that is done very often at colleges that students get to direct and put on their own shows” Crochet said. “There’s a lot of background work that a lot of people don’t see so it’s a great opportunity to learn about that as students and get the feedback from the audience.”

“I hope that [the audience] takes away that dance can really be everything and anything, it can be a learning experience it can be an enjoyable time just for entertainment, but it can really be thought provoking,” Crochet said. “If you can come to any performance whether it’s dance or musical theatre or anything like that with an open mind you can take away so much more than you ever expected going into the show.”

Real Artistic Works was the second to last dance performance of the semester.
