Poem potluck

St. Patrick’s Day may not be the most popular holiday across Colorado Mesa University (CMU) campus, yet Lit Review ensured it would not go uncelebrated in a celebratory potluck to mimic the club’s usual routine.

“We’re basically mimicking what Lit Review is,” Sophomore english writing major Alison Standish said. Lit Review is just basically writing, art and art based on writing so what we’re doing here is bringing in [students’] art and writing in envelopes and we’re putting it all together into one pile and everyone can draw one, and you have an option to either create some other piece of art inspired by it or a piece of writing inspired by it.”

This St. Paddy’s potluck is made especially to emphasize the creativity and mash of art and literature in Lit Review to any potential newcomers.

“My favorite part of Lit Review is the fusion between art and writing,” Standish said, “It’s definitely something that we get a lot of as kids, in children’s books, with illustrations and there’s a lot of art with reading and writing that kind of fades away as we live older.”

Contrary to what the title of the organization may imply, the Literary Review is open and happy to accept students from majors of all kinds, from nursing to construction management.

“I really just wish that more people knew about it so that we could have more representation from across the board,” Standish said. “Not just english majors, not just writing majors, not just mass-communication people.”

Not only is Lit Review open to CMU students of all majors, but students of any background and experience are encouraged to join and share their art.

“I want CMU to know that the Lit Review is for everyone. It’s a place for anyone to express themselves, it’s a place for anyone to be heard, and be seen, and be published and have their work in print,” Standish said, “Which is just this very special feeling as a writer to see your name in print, and know you are seen and appreciated.”

Although St. Patrick’s Day may have passed alongside the potluck, Lit Review continues strong indefinitely, open for CMU students of all kinds to submit their art for publication.
