Mavericks win close fought battle with Eagles

The Mavericks were able to pull out another win in a back and forth battle with Chadron State College (CSC).

In one of their toughest games of the season the Mavericks took the Eagles to four sets to become 8-0 on the season.

Throughout the first set the Mavericks were up in the score until the Eagles came back to tie the game 15-15. They would then work their way back to a 25-22 win. 

Freshman right side Gabrielle Vogt had five kills in the first set. 

In the second set the Eagles took advantage of the 13 errors by Colorado Mesa University (CMU). The Mavericks had only one service error and 11 attack errors. 

Freshman outside hitter Sierra Hunt saw the most minutes she has seen in her collegiate career against CSC. She played a big part in the Mavericks keeping the game close in the second set. She had two kills in the second set.

The Eagles went on to win the set 20-25.

In the third set, Hunt had six more kills against the Eagles. The Mavericks knew that they had to change their approach and played a very fast pace third set. They would win with their biggest margin of 25-17.

The Mavericks found themselves in another back and forth set during what would be the final set of the game. They would end the final set 25-21. 

Sophomores Savannah Spitzer and Haley Hahn both helped CMU on the defensive side all day with four blocks each. 

Senior outside hitter led the team in digs with 18. She also had 13 kills. Vogt and Hunt both had 12 kills of their own. 

Freshman setter Sabrina VanDeList added 22 more assists for a total of 126 assists so far this season. VanDeList also had nine digs for the Mavericks. 

Senior setter Ara Norwood came off the bench for the team and had 19 assists and two aces. Junior libero Emily Tucker had 12 digs of her own. 

The Mavericks will have a week off before starting a pod series with Metro State University- Denver and University of Colorado Colorado Springs in Grand Junction Colo, on March 4 at 2 P.M.
