With student elections fast approaching, it is so important that all CMU students start looking into candidates they hope to represent CMU for the next year. Of all the positions, the Student Trustee position is one that is arguably the most important. The Student Trustee represents all CMU students to the Board of Trustees and is in charge of advocating for students.
No one does this with more enthusiasm, grace, and eloquence than our current Student Trustee, Amara Hobbs. I have had the pleasure of working alongside Amara this year on the 2018-2019 ASG Executive Branch.
My role in ASG is to oversee all financial transactions and to chair the Financial Allocation Committee. Through this process, I have gotten to see Amara empower, support, and celebrate CMU Students and their achievements. Amara truly sets herself apart by the way she authentically cares for everyone and will genuinely advocate for CMU Students.
One of my favorite things about Amara is that she keeps a notebook of every idea she has to improve CMU and of any need that a student expresses. Not only have I gotten the pleasure of watching her thrive advocating for students, but Amara has also advocated for me.
This year, a group of finance students and myself went before the Board of Trustees to found the CMU Student Investment Fund. Amara advocated for us to the Trustees to get the funding we needed for the project. She knew this would create an incredible opportunity for the students of CMU, as well as, create even better opportunities for future CMU students.
Amara is a very rare candidate. She is running for office because she genuinely wants to see positive change at CMU and because she wants to be a voice advocating for students.
I want to conclude by saying that there are no bad candidates for Student Trustee but Amara is the candidate that is willing to truly advocate for students and she is the candidate that will represent CMU with class, intelligence, positivity, and esteem. I encourage all of you to get out and vote in this election. Let your voice be heard and show your maverick spirit. Vote Amara Hobbs for Student Trustee!
