Homecoming carnival and bonfire draw a crowd

Annual homecoming traditions generate excitement at the Plaza

This year’s Homecoming carnival at Colorado Mesa University displayed several attractions, including a mechanical bull, a dunk tank, sumo suits and live music. On the south side of the plaza, there was even an inflatable bouncy course.

KMSA 91.3 had a table, as did the Psychology Club, Forensic Science Club and more. Another table provided popcorn and hot chocolate and the club TNL Masterplan Ministries gave out free snow cones.

At 8:15 p.m., the bonfire started with the tradition of burning the mascot of the Saturday football game, which in this case, was the University of Colorado’s Ralphie the Buffalo.

The CMU Maverick Stampede Marching Band performed at the fire for extra entertainment, playing traditional tunes such as “Go Mavs Go,” “Fireball” and “Koolaid.” They also played this year’s halftime show, “Stampede Rocks!”
