Grand Junction or Cabo?

It is time for a break from school, but where do the students go?

Colorado Mesa University’s spring break is March 12-16. Students will be traveling near, far or just staying in Grand Junction. Some will be heading to the beach, traveling for sports, skiing or snowboarding or camping.

So CMU students, what are you doing for spring break?

Austin Cromwell: From Ashburn, VA.

Cromwell plays for the CMU men’s lacrosse team. This season will be Cromwell’s last. Since Cromwell started playing for CMU men’s lacrosse, he has had to miss every spring break to travel to Florida to play multiple games around Tampa and Orlando. This spring break they will be playing three games.

“It’s an amazing experience traveling for spring break,” Cromwell said. “We are able to experience a part of the country, that we normally don’t have access to.”

The team will be taking a charter bus to Salt Lake City, Utah, then flying to Florida from there

“The best part is spending time with my lacrosse family,” Cromwell said. “The worst part is inclement weather and forgetting a piece of equipment in your locker.”

Sabrina Blea: From Broomfield, Colo.

Blea will be heading to Lake Powell, which is on the border between Utah and Arizona. Blea will be driving up with seven of her friends.

“I am going camping at Lake Powell so I can relax and spend quality time with my best friends,” Blea said.

The drive to Lake Powell from Grand Junction is three and a half hours.

“I picked Lake Powell because I used to go there as a kid for family vacations,” Blea said. “It’s breathtaking no matter what time of year you go.”

Blea and her friends plan to leave in the middle of spring break since it’s so short of a drive, they will still get the full experience of Lake Powell.

“I love lakes, so spending some time sleeping in a tent right next to one sounded like a no-brainer,” Blea said.

Aspen Coleman: From Grand Junction, Colo.

Coleman is in her senior year at CMU. Coleman had a fun trip planned and she was packed and ready to go, but then the trip had to change.

“I had planned to go to California, but I got the opportunity to interview for an internship at Denver Connections Promotions Firm,” Coleman said.

Coleman will be taking a road trip, by herself, to the front range at the beginning of spring break. Coleman plans to not make the whole trip down to the internship interview.

“I think I will visit some friends in the area and maybe go to some shows while I’m there,” Coleman said.

Jake Douglas: From Mission Viejo, Cali.

Douglas is heading back to his home, California for spring break. He is ready to hit the beach, visit friends and family. Douglas will be flying from Grand Junction to Orange County.

“Besides hanging out at the beach the whole break, eating GOOD sushi for every meal will definitely be the best part,” Douglas said.

Douglas hasn’t had a spring break since 8th grade, due to playing lacrosse and spring break is during the season.

“While playing at Mesa [CMU] we got to go to Florida every spring break and have an enjoyable time while playing lacrosse,” Douglas said.

The spring break vacation, that Douglas is about to go on will be so exciting.

“I would highly recommend my trip to other students,” Douglas said.“Not only am I an hour away from San Diego and Los Angles but, the food, beach and vibes are perfect for a spring break trip.”

With a much-needed break from school, the campus may seem empty as students flee for a break. Wherever students go, spring break will be a week of relief.
