Theatre and Dance

Nov. 8, 9, & 10, 7:30-10 pm and 2-4:30 on Nov. 10, Robinson Theatre – Clybourne Park

Written as a response, Clyborne Park covers fictional events that occurred before and after the play A Raisin in the Sun. Clyborne Park contains two acts, the first about a white community that attempts to prevent the sale of a house to a black family and is set in the 1950s, and the second about that same house in present day which is part of a largely African-American community who are resisting gentrification.

Tickets are currently on sale: $21 for adults, $17 for seniors, and $8 for students. The play is rated R for strong language.

Nov. 15, 7-9 pm,  – RAW

Real Artistic Works or RAW is a student run and student created performance by the CMU Dance Society. This will contain several student choreographers works. It will be a night of great dancing and fun with students running the stage, lights, sound and creating the works. Entry will be $5. 

Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 7:30-10 pm and 2-5:30 pm on Dec. 1, Robinson Theatre– ENDS: Fall Dance Concert

The fall dance concert will exhibit the CMU Dance program’s diversity. The concert includes choreography by faculty, guest artists, Daniel Charon whom is the Director of Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company and three students’ work. 

Tickets are currently on sale: $15 for adults, $10 for senior and $7 for students.

 

Music

Nov. 3, 7:30 pm, at the Avalon Theatre – Rockestra: Women Who Rock TOO!!

The Grand Junction Rockestra, a symphony orchestra which plays rock and roll music and is accompanied by a rock band rhythm section, will be playing music from female and rock and roll icons.

The proceeds from the event will go to the CMU Music Department’s scholarship program and the Western Slope Center For Children.

Tickets are currently on sale: $50 for VIP, which includes a VIP party pass, and $25 for general admission.

Nov. 10, 7:30 pm, Love Recital Hall –  Susan Ellinger

Susan Ellinger is an accomplished pianist. Ellinger has performed as a soloist and chamber musician. Ellinger has performed in famous avenues such as Carnegie Hall and Harvard University.

Ellinger is performing on Nov. 10 as part of the Music Department’s Guest Artist Series.

Tickets are currently on sale: $17 for adults, $12 for seniors and $5 for students.

Nov. 13, 7:30 pm, Love Recital Hall – William Aikens and Arthur Houle

William Aikens joined CMU’s Music Department in 2016. Aikens earned his Doctor in Musical Arts degree in oboe performance and was the Principal Oboist of the Great Falls Symphony Orchestra.

Arthur Houle is a professor of music at CMU. Houle is a pianist and teaches quite a bit within that realm. He is the founder and the director of the Festival for Creative Pianists – a competition to promote individuality and skill in all music styles. Houle has received five CMU Exemplary Faculty Awards and the 2011 Music teachers National Association Fellow Award.

Nov. 14, 7:30 pm, Love Recital Hall – Student Chamber Ensembles

CMU students will be performing chamber music. This is a particular style of instrumental music which is played by a small group or ensemble. In most cases there is only one player to each part and a common form of this is a string quartet.
