With this being The Criterion’s final edition of the year, we are saying goodbye to many of the staff on our editorial board. With many of the staff having been with us for well over a year, we wanted to take this opportunity to let them say goodbye. Our Accuracy Manager Jillian Richardson, Social Media Editor AnnaMarie O’Loughlin, Distribution Manager Theya Buck, Opinion Editor David Martinez and our Managing Editor LJ Romanek will all be graduating here on May 20 with their bachelor’s degrees.
Jillian and AnnaMarie will be finishing with their degrees in mass communication, Theya with her degree in biology, David with his degree in English writing and LJ with her degree in business administration in entrepreneurship.
Jillian is going on a national park trip. AnnaMarie will be staying in Grand Junction to be an assistant coach for Colorado Mesa University’s (CMU) dance team. Theya will be extending her internship for the Bureau of Land Management. David is preparing to pursue his master’s at Colorado State University in Writing, Rhetoric and Social Change. Finally, LJ will be moving to Nashville to work in small business management.
Along with these four, The Criterion will be saying goodbye to its News Editor–Jace DiCola, and its Photography Editor Sierra Angel. Jace will be preparing for his graduation in December with a bachelor’s in English writing and getting ready for what comes after. Meanwhile, Sierra will be entering the nursing program at CMU and also studying to become a medical American Sign Language interpreter.
The team of editors that are leaving are all getting ready to say their goodbyes to the organization and each of them left us with words of wisdom and their final sign-offs:
Jillian Richardson: “I had a great time working for The Criterion this past year. It was really fun to meet people I wouldn’t have otherwise and now I’ll always pay attention to commas a little too much. I wish everyone the best!”
AnnaMarie O’Loughlin: “The Crite was a great experience and I will miss every one of my fellow editors so much. I am so excited to see what’s in store for next year. Good luck everyone!”
Theya Buck: “It was a pleasure to work for The Criterion as the Distribution Manager, and I wish the rest of the staff luck with the next semester!”
David Martinez: “It’s been absolutely amazing getting the chance to work for The Criterion. Though I’m excited to go on to what’s next, it’s also been hard saying goodbye. I wish nothing but the best to all those that are continuing on.”
LJ Romanek: “To quote Hannah Montana, ‘I always knew this day would come,’ but that doesn’t make this any easier. The Criterion has been so good to me. I am excited for what comes next.”
Jace DiCola: “Since I began attending CMU three years ago, the Crite has been a consistent home for me. I appreciate all of the opportunities and lessons given to me, for better or worse. A special thanks to our adviser Steve.”
Sierra Angel: “The Criterion has given me so much. I’ve grown as not only a photographer/editor, but also as a person. I will never forget the amazing memories and even more amazing friends I have gained along the way. I was proud to represent the Crite’s motto: ‘By the students, for the students.'”
