I know I am now going to forever be labeled as a scrooge or a Christmas hater, but I don’t really care. Why do companies begin to push out all of their Christmas merchandise the day following Halloween? Same thing goes for Christmas music being played throughout the month of November. It doesn’t make any sense!
When did this nation become so one censored when it comes to holidays, specifically Christmas? Don’t people realize that there is another major holiday in between the day following Halloween and Christmas day? And no I am not talking about my birthday, although that does fall in November for those that forgot to tell me happy birthday two weeks ago, I am talking about Thanksgiving.
I love Thanksgiving and everything that it brings and represents, so when I am walking around Albertsons on Nov. 3 and I see all of these Santa decorations and tree ornaments scattered across the aisles, it makes me feel like people have just forgotten about the time that we are supposed to be thankful for one another and would rather fast forward to when you are bombarded with gifts.
Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that Christmas has that thankful aspect as well but lets all be honest here, we know why Christmas is so beloved. However, this is the bigger reason why this tradition that these huge companies have put upon us upsets me.
I remember when I was younger that it used to feel like ages before it was Christmas again. I remember that it would take seemingly decades before it was Christmas Eve again. Now, however, it is not the case.
As of late it seems like a week and all of a sudden it is Christmas time again. My life seems to be flying by at an alarming pace. There are no more of those days where I was just begging for Christmas to come when it was 98 degrees in the middle of July because I don’t have to beg, it is literally right around the corner.
So when companies are trying to push out their Christmas decorations at the beginning of November, it makes me think that they don’t want us to enjoy the time in between Halloween and Christmas. And my life goes by fast enough, so I don’t want it to fly by even faster because corporations like Walmart need those extra three weeks to make more money.
