The students have been waiting for something to mix up their normal diets of on-campus Sodexo food.
With the recent addition of Nomad Bowlz, in the form of a truck in the Plaza, students who have been struggling with finding plant-based vegan or vegetarian options on-campus can now enjoy a plethora of options that meet their needs.
Nomad Bowlz is a locally owned and operated food truck, serving a variety of made-to-order handcrafted smoothie bowls, including acai and pitaya bowls, as well as other fruit smoothies.
Owners Candice Sisko and Chris Sorgine founded Nomad Bowlz in August of 2021, and it has already surpassed expectations, recently being voted for the best food truck in The Daily Sentinel “Best of the West”.
Sisko and Sorgine explained that their inspiration behind Nomad Bowlz came from their desire to share their mutual love and passion for acai and smoothie bowls with everyone else in the Grand Valley. They saw a need for it in the community, after realizing that, at the time, there was not anywhere else in Grand Junction to find a true acai bowl.
“The mission behind Nomad Bowlz is to encourage the community to prioritize their health and take pride in what they are fueling their bodies with,” Sisko said.
CMU students have been doing just that, with students flocking to this new vegan-friendly on-campus option, and they have been showing their appreciation.
“Nomad Bowlz is really, really good. I like the variety of flavored bowls and the variety of toppings they have. The size portions are worth the money, and I don’t think anyone has ever walked away unsatisfied, including myself,” customer and biology major Michelle Topete said.
Fashion design major Gemma Andrew, a struggling vegan student, has had trouble finding vegan options on campus.she states, “The best granola I’ve ever had! It was vegan, which is great because The Caf does not provide many options, so they do have good vegan options for people like me.”
Nomad Bowlz has provided an accessible and affordable option for all CMU students to have a healthy and plant-based meal that meets the needs of the vegan or vegetarian students who do find a limited selection for them on-campus.
