A new addition to Colorado Mesa University opened on Monday, Sept. 25 in the Brownson Arena lobby across from the soccer field and near the tennis courts. Amidst the construction going on in this area, a new food option has opened for students, the Maverick’s Snack Shop. The concession stand is open from 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. for students to grab a quick bite to eat or grab a coffee on the way to class. Maverick’s Snack Shop offers a unique but concise menu consisting of items such as sundried tomatoes, buffalo chicken, assorted muffins, fruit, coffee, tea, soda, sandwiches and other quick and easy refreshments.

What makes Maverick’s Snack Shop unique is that it is not managed by Sodexo, the corporation that runs most of CMU’s food options such as the dining hall, Tres Habaneros, Pandini’s, and the several other small coffee shops on campus. The new concession stand is run by the athletics department. Now CMU students are not limited to solely Sodexo products. With the athletics department managing the snack shop, revenues can be brought back to the university instead of Sodexo. This is good news for CMU, because now a small profit can be brought in to benefit the university as a whole.
Even better, Josh Munk, Associate Athletic Director overseeing Maverick’s Snack Shop, emphasized the exciting partnership with My Favorite Muffin. The concession stand sells products such as muffins and cupcakes from this beloved bakery chain for students to purchase.
While the location of Maverick’s Snack Shop is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of central campus, Munk believes this location is convenient considering that the university has grown (and will continue to grow) northward. Munk believes that it will be an easy stop for students who have classes in the new health sciences building, allowing them to grab a quick bite without having to walk all the way to the University Center.
Another unique attribute is that Maverick’s Snack Shop employs students and boasts the cheapest prices campus-wide. Munk claims that the new concession stand has some of the best coffee for the best price. He hopes that this new addition can function as a sustainable snack shop, as the campus continues to grow and develop. The menu will also be changed as needed, to cater to what students enjoy.
Stop by Maverick’s Snack Shop to try out this brand new option and support the CMU community. Who knows, maybe this will be the next favorite eatery on campus.
