A tradition that occurs every year at Colorado Mesa University is the spring concert. This event is hosted by the Programming Activities Committee (PAC), who invites a new artist each year to put on a show for the student body.
Notable artists have included Hoodie Allen, G-Eazy and more.
The artist(s) attending this year are currently unknown to PAC, as they are trying to find someone. As of now, they are not talking a musician or group, as they have determined that they will allow the student body to give them an idea of what they want.
Melanie DiMinno of PAC said, “We go through a multi-step process. First, we put out polls and surveys on social media (and hopefully in person this year) regarding the desired genres. Second, we evaluate the polls and surveys and look through a variety of artists within the winning venue. We narrow it down based on our budget.”
At the moment, PAC is in the act of running polls and surveys on all of their social media accounts including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. They are at the first step, taking in desires for the genre, after which they examine artists who fit the genre and can do such a concert, and then they move towards deciding by working with their budget.
“We converse with our middleman (talent agency, etc.), the artist’s manager and our key contacts on campus. We have to figure out what date works for campus and the artist. Often, this is a very tricky and time-consuming process. Artists also tend to increase their price dramatically when they discover that we are a university,” DiMinno said.
No dates are set for the concert as a result of needing to know the musician’s or group’s open dates first and then adjust to that. But, the student body will know once the artist has been determined.
DiMinno said, “We will… host a ‘big reveal’ of the artist once we have them confirmed and multiple information tables with info regarding location, date, time, and tickets.”
