Both Maverick Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive Teams placed in the top six on the final day of the NCAA Championships.
Colorado Mesa University’s (CMU) men’s team finished in sixth place with 221 points in the championships. They were just four points behind Florida Southern College in fifth place.
The Maverick’s Women’s Swim and Dive team finished fifth place with 241 points. They finished 10 points in front of West Chester University in sixth place.
Senior Lily Borgenheimer became the first Maverick swimmer to ever win a National Championship. She won the 200-yard breaststroke event with a time of 2:11.56.
Junior Amelia Kinnard finished in 10 place in the 1650-yard freestyle event with a time of 17:06.35 in the first event of the final day of the championships.
In the men’s 1650-yard freestyle, the Maverick’s sophomore Gavin Anderson took 21 place with a time of 15:53.87. Freshman Jacob Troescher finished 25 with a time of 15:58.20.
Junior Lauren White took seventh in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.87. She earned 12 points for the Mavericks total of 241 points.
Sophomore Ben Sampson broke his own school record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:41.53 to finish in second place. He finished just over a tenth of a second behind Mikita Tsmyh who took first in the event.
Senior Jolynn Harris took seventh in the women’s one-meter diving event with 417.95 points. She finished less than a point behind Regan Gubera from McKendree University in sixth place.
The final events of the day were the 400-yard freestyle relay. The women’s team was comprised of juniors Lauren White, Davy Brown, Ruby Bottai and senior Logan Anderson. They finished with a time of 3:24.67 to take 10 place.
The men’s team featured juniors Felipe D’Orsi, Matheus Laperriere, senior Lane Austin and freshman Kuba Kiszczak. They finished in 15 place with a time of 2:58.79 which was a tenth of a second behind the University of Findlay’s team.
CMU’s Men’s Swim and Dive Team’s sixth-place finish in the NCAA Championships caps off a 9-6 season. The women’s team caps off an 11-10-1 season with their fifth-place finish.
