September is coming to a close and fall is officially in the air. This means that October is right around the corner and all the October activities are coming up. At Colorado Mesa University one annual event is the Artoberfest. This will be the fourth annual Artoberfest at CMU. This will take place Oct. 18 on the Delta Field. Not only are students encouraged but high schoolers and community members are welcome as well.
The day will start of at 9:00 a.m. at the information station, where everyone can pick up a punch card that can be filled out at each booth. For every full card, the Mesa Emerging Designers (MED), will give away a 2018 Artoberfest T-shirt while supplies last.
One of the events of the day is a Sidewalk Chalk Contest. The contest is limited to either five teams or five individuals, with prizes for the top three. Pre-registration is required: send an email to [email protected] to sign up.
There will also be a temporary graffiti wall hosted by the MED. Furthermore, the Ceramics Faculty and students will have wheels and clay available for beginners to try wheel throwing. Additionally, the Printmaking Guild will be live printing large woodcuts (up to 30” by 90”). Everyone is welcome to bring their own large blocks or ‘grids’ of smaller blocks for printing, too.
As every year, the Sculpture Guild will host their Iron Pour, where they will use molten iron to cast sculptures. The Iron Pour beings around 12:00 p.m. and wont stop until all the molds are poured.
Throughout the whole day, Animation, Film, Photography and Motion Design students will offer matted studio portraits of family and pets, for only $5. Other artist will be available as well to draw caricatures for a fee. There will also be tours of the Fine Arts building available. Everyone can sign up for a tour at the information station. Also, there will be a free exhibit of student work in Film, Animation and Motion design. People can buy student-created objects in Motion, as well as buy something from the assortment of student made ceramic pieces and other 3D art work which the Clay Club and Sculpture Guide will have for sale. There will also be fresh baked goods and hot popcorn for sale, and everyone is invited to check out Michael Angelo’s wood fired Pizza Food Truck, Gelu Italian Ice and the Sip Mobile Coffee Company on the Delta Field.
