Mavs elect new presidential duo

BoeForsett

ASG elections came to a close at 5 p.m. last Friday on OrgSync as Mavs made their final choices for ASG President and Vice President, as well senators and Student Trustee. Juniors Connor Boe and Alex Forsett came out on top for the presidential elections, winning by less than 35 votes, according to the official elections results on MAVzone.

“How do I describe that moment?” Forsett said. “I was actually at work. I needed to scream but I couldn’t. I was just dancing around in the back of the kitchen all excited.”

Boe and Forsett took to campaigning outside of the University Center throughout the election process, introducing themselves to students and spreading the word about their campaign and hope for the future of CMU.

“We were down there pretty much every day, handing out flyers, passing out buttons and answering as many questions as we could,” Boe said about their campaign strategy. “I guess that face-to-face contact with all the students really paid off well.”

Boe stressed that his administration would focus on the biennial process in the fall, which will allocate money to different clubs and organizations on campus.

“We’re really gonna focus on making sure that all the clubs and organizations have the proper funding for the next two years that they need,” he said. “We just want to make sure that they have the ability to function and achieve the goals that they want first.”

Forsett agreed that the first steps to their administration would be getting started on the biennial, but also addressing the issue of safety on campus.

“We both talked about that, and just making sure that we start the conversation, not only with the safety committee but also with the administration and seeing where we can expand as far as safety goes,” Forsett said.

This week Boe and Forsett will meet with current ASG President Ariel Diamond and Mitch Karstens, Director of Student Life, to discuss what their first steps are going to be.

“I think what I’m really most excited for is getting to know all of the organizations individually,” Boe said. “I know them on a face level, but what I’m really excited to see is what these organizations have been doing with their time and what we can do to help them.”

The two will be sworn in as President and Vice President at the last ASG meeting of the semester in the next few weeks.
