ASG Update: Changes made to bylaws

For the first meeting to start the post-spring break stretch, ASG held their weekly meeting on the Montrose campus, where the senate tackled nine bills.

Six of the nine bills were ammendments to the ASG bylaws. These bills go through three readings to pass, according to President Ariel Diamond, and may change at any reading. Five of these ammendments went through their first reading, and ASG 13-69 was tabled. Updates on these ammedments will be given after their third and final reading.

All 21 senators present passed ASG 13-71, a request from the Polynesian Alliance Club for $100 from the ASG Operating Budget for the annual Ho’olokahi Lu’au. Prior to spring break, ASG passed a request for $250 for two tables for the same event. According to Senator Ronin Bennet, the tables were needed to sell more tickets.

ASG 13-72, requested by the Athletic Training Club, took $786.22 from SCRF so 13 of its members can attend the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainer’s Association Conference in Provo, Utah. The bill itself was vague, but bill sponsor Senator Rubin said the funds were for registration costs, transportation and hotel rooms while the original funding requested was cut from over $2000. Senators were on the fence as the club used to pay for this themselves, but because of this being the first full year under Athletic Director Tom Spicer, they were not able to complete their normal fundraising. This caused the bill to pass by the skin of its teeth, 12 votes for and 9 against.

The last bill discussed was by way of the Sustainability Council. ASG 13-73 asked for $740 from MESA/ environmental fund for six students to attend the Earthship Biotecture Conference in Salt Lake City. The focus of the conference is bio-architecture. The bill passed 18-3 but depleted the MESA fund to a perfect $0.
