Where are my pants? Students bare all for campus undie run

By Nick Weems

From Thor to three male students wearing matching underwear, students showed up last Thursday to run around campus in their underwear for PAC’s Undie Run.

Inside the University Center before the event began, the runners were asked to sign liability forms and were given wristbands to determine who was a part of the run. Speakers were set up at the table inside and outside of Elm Quad, with music provided by KMSA.

An estimated 60 people showed up, despite rainy weather. Students stripped and donated their clothes to PAC, which will distribute them to Goodwill, Homeward Bound and the Latimer House in Grand Junction.

According to one of PAC’s members, Tatiana Lopez, there were previous undie runs, but one hasn’t happened in quite awhile.

“They actually did one a couple of years back, and I think it’s just kind of something that we’ve always wanted to try. There’s a lot of cool Greek shows and TV episodes that have done it, and it’s for a really great cause too. And I think it’s a good way to get the students more involved and just to have some fun and also to support a good cause and donate their clothes,” Lopez said. “It’s mainly just about having a good time, donating to a good cause.”

Starting at Elm Quad, runners made their way through the older dorms like Tolman, past the Maverick Center, and headed by the front of the University Center, Wubben and Dominguez Hall, down past Garfield, Houston, and the library, making their way back to the University Center.

Minutes after the race started, by-standers rushed to the Maverick Statue, where there were more speakers playing music and a table with water for the runners.

Two male students were sprinting toward the finish line trying to beat each other.

“It was a lot of fun and was hard because I’m really out of shape,” one of the runners, freshman Krista Broumpton, said.

The event was monitored to ensure that the runners weren’t wearing anything too provocative. Campus police were also on scene for safety.
