App aims to spur Colo small business

Colorado’s Secretary of State’s Business Intelligence Center started a new event in February that calls all entrepreneurs, code writers and business owners to come together to promote Colorado’s economy. Go Code Colorado is a competition for teams to create an app to better assist small business owners in Colorado.

Go Code Colorado is seeking the best and brightest Colorado has to offer to help solve issues that are faced right in their own community. Submissions and feedback from local businesses produced five different app categories that would benefit from easier access to public information. The five categories include: business site locator, competitive landscape, access to capital, higher education services and business partners.

A cash incentive of $50,000 will be awarded to the winners and CMU officials are hopeful that students will want to compete in Go Code Colorado.

“We really want to get the word out so that students have the chance to compete,” said CMU Director of Media Relations Dana Nunn.

One of five different host regions, Grand Junction will provide two apps to compete in Denver for the finals. The goal is to promote new ideas, share information in the community and to ultimately help grow the Colorado economy.
