Hometown: Qingdao, China, “a big city, famous for its beach,” according to Wang.

Studying: Marketing, sophomore year

Student involvement: President of the International Student Alliance.

“I think it’s an awesome experience to get to know people from all over the world.”

Is the food you find at Chinese restaurants here similar to what you grew up eating in China?

Definitely not.  I went to a Chinese restaurant here and looked at the menu and said, “Okay who can tell me what this is?” I know that fortune cookies are for sure not from China. The fried rice here isn’t even the same. My mom cooked it really good. She has a way of cooking fried rice with like seven different veggies. She invented fried rice, basically.

What do you like to do when you’re not in class?

Crafting, knitting, making cards for friends. I really like 2-D design and I think that could actually help with my marketing [degree]. I feel like when I paint I can really focus.

Likes and dislikes about CMU and Grand Junction?

I didn’t really want to be here the first year, but then I made some really good friends, who are always there for me.

I am not a sports person, and that kind of sucks for me, because Grand Junction is an outdoors place.

Do you get homesick?

Yes, especially around the holidays when I’m all alone in the dorm. My friends invite me, but I feel like it’s their family time and I don’t want to interrupt.

Most difficult English phrase to master?

Sick. Like, ‘Oh that’s so sick.’ I used to get so confused. Is it good or bad?
