Cycling team races for No. 1 ranking

The 2013-2014 cycling season began in August, and the team has had an impressive start to the season.

“I feel really confident about this season,” cyclist Zack LaVergne said. “We did really well at track nationals and rocked it again at mountain nationals. We have a really good momentum going into cross nationals in January.”

While CMU’s cycling team is currently a Division II program in the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference, the cycling team is looking to obtain a No. 1 ranking on the national stage. Every race is crucial in reaching this goal and LaVergne and fellow cyclist Ariana Dittmer earned front call-ups from nationals after winning the Conference Cross Championship.

Alexis Skarda recently won her third straight national championship in cross-country mountain biking at the US Collegiate Mountain Biking Championships in Boulder, where the rest of the Mavs put up impressive results.

The team then went on to take third place at the 2013 Collegiate Mountain Biking Championships and in Division II omnium. The team’s next stop is Cross Nationals in January.
