CMU students hit the catwalk last Monday at KMSA’s highly anticipated Fall Fashion Show. Hosted in conjunction with the Mass Communication department, the fashion show highlighted clothing contributed by the Main Street boutique Pollux Clothing Company and collected donations for the Salvation Army.

“This is the first time that I feel that CMU has seen anything like this. It’s very unique and very different,” said senior student and event organizer Victoria Piper.

Piper had been working on a fashion show for quite some time after Mass Communication Professor Regis Tucci pitched her the idea a few years ago, but she didn’t have an appropriate timeframe until this fall.

Piper teamed up with fellow Mass Communication students Mckenzie Smith and Matt MacDonald at the beginning of this semester to begin planning and organizing.

According to Piper, a casting call for 11 female students was issued in mid-September, while student Andy Bowen was contacted to create original music and the background cinema and assist in model coaching.

“Normally [putting on the show] would take four to six months, and as short as the show is, it’s amazing the amount of work that went into it,” Piper said.

Fellow student organization Kappa Sigma ushered the event, Five 60 Salon and Spa did all of the models’ hair and makeup and several other local companies helped by sponsoring the event.

“We are hoping to do a spring fashion show with male and female models, so people can hope for another one to come,” Piper said.
