Wrestling team hosts annual Homecoming fundraiser

As part of the Homecoming festivities, the CMU wrestling team, along with the help of other members of the Athletic Department, hosted a steak and crab cookout Saturday afternoon before to the football game against Colorado School of Mines.

With a few hundred hungry eaters, the wrestlers served up buckets of fresh crab legs and plates of steaks as part of their fundraising efforts.

“We started this event eight years ago, and it’s just gotten bigger and bigger every year,” wrestling coach Chuck Pipher said. “There’s a lot that goes into this, and we have had a ton of great people helping out, and it couldn’t be done without them.”

For $50, students and families had all-you-can-eat steak, crab, drinks and beer for those of age. All the proceeds benefitted the CMU wrestlers and the athletic department.

The CMU wrestling team was picked earlier this week to finish third in the RMAC in the preseason polls. Adams State was unanimously picked to finish first.

Individually, James Martinez was placed on the All-RMAC preseason team. Martinez was an All-American last season after placing sixth in the National Tournament.
