MavNotes: Away Game Recaps 10/23-10/27

Men’s hot streak continues

The Mavericks were able to upend Fort Lewis on Saturday for only the second time in either school’s history with a 2-1 victory. Alan Hernandez and Legofi Crawford each scored in the match that was originally scheduled for Friday before being rescheduled. They followed up Saturday’s victory with a 2-0 win over Adams State off of goals by Tim Hofer, his first on the season, and Marco Escobar. With the weekend sweep, the Mavericks (9-4-3, 7-2-3 RMAC) are now 5-0-2 in their last seven games.

Mavs drop two more, playoffs near

CMU (6-10, 5-7 RMAC) was unable to keep pace with the rest of the conference last week and dropped two matches, each by a score of 3-1, on the road against Western State Colorado and New Mexico Highlands. The loss to WSCU was the first in CMU’s short history playing the two-year-old Mountaineers. Monica Carlos extended her scoring streak to four straight games with a goal before failing to contribute in Friday’s loss. Kendra Penchoff scored the only goal against Highlands. The Mavs have dropped their last three matches and five of the last six.

Cycling team takes 3rd at Nationals

Alexis Skarda was the highlight for the cycling team’s weekend trip to the U.S. Collegiate Mountain Biking Championships. She won her third straight cross country mountain biking national title, leading her race from the start. She finished second in the women’s short track race on Friday. Bridgette LeBar, finishing ninth in the downhill race, was the other athlete to finish in the top 10 for the women’s team on the day. Jeff Sikes was the lone top-10 finisher for the men, finishing 10th in the men’s cross country race.
