Editorial: Let loose with class next weekend

We’ve been in class for three full weeks now, and stuff is starting to pile up, we know.

Aside from class, homework and side jobs, there’s also those sexy fellow Mavericks that we feel an obligation to attend to. By the time the weekend hits, or even before (we understand the wasted Wednesday and thirsty Thursday logic), you are ready to have some drinks and cut loose. We are too.

Most everyone at the Criterion loves a good party, but we also enjoy our health and well-being. Over the last weekend, we saw a few too many intoxicated students stumbling through the streets on their way to or from parties. It also looks pretty worrisome and not very respectable to see an ambulance, fire trucks and police cars outside the North Ave. dorms.

Even if you walked to the party, call MavRides (248-2222) on the way back. MavRides is not going to report underage drinking. That is not their job. Unless you’re acting stupid, your RA won’t report you either. There is no reason to stumble several blocks back to campus and risk getting stopped by the cops, who are a lot less forgiving than your RA, who is only going to report you if you’re acting like a fool.

Even more forgiving than the cops or the RAs are the MavRides drivers themselves. As long as you can prove you attend this university, they probably won’t ask you anything except, “Where are we headed tonight?”

Either way, there are resources available for you so that you don’t have to do risky and unsafe stuff, but the responsibility falls on you to know your limits.

Getting turnt is only fun until you’re sitting in the back of a cop car or getting your stomach pumped. Let’s all do our best to avoid that.
