How is Obamacare affecting you?

You’re getting screwed.
There really isn’t any other way to describe the effects Obamacare will have on Colorado youth who pay their own insurance. As reported by The Hill, rates for the lowest health care coverage, “catastrophic” coverage, which is common among young professionals, will increase dramatically under Obamacare. The estimated price taken from the state’s rate information will be $135 a month, which is about a 140 percent increase.
This is particularly troubling news when you consider the fact that more and more recent college grads are moving in with their parents as a result of the poor job market. Many people who graduate with college degrees find themselves working in jobs they seemingly could have gotten without a college degree at all or working part time. Couple this with the record amount of student loans that kids are taking out to pay for college, and it’s already a recipe for disaster.
The unemployment rate for youth in Colorado for people ages 16-24 is 16.7 percent. This does not account for people only working part-time. This is considerably higher than the state average and means that the 140 percent increase will prove very painful.
These numbers are ironic and a slap in the face to one of Obama’s most loyal voting blocks. While young voters turned out in droves for Obama at the voting booth, particularly in 2008, it seems the President’s policies are having more negative effects on them than almost any other group.
To make matters even worse, as hinted to in a news article that ran in The Crite last week, many employers that are providing our generation with jobs to get through college or immediately after college will be cutting hours down to 20 per week in order to avoid the massive cost that Obamacare will impose upon them. This means even more part-time work and less jobs, making student loan debt increase and payments harder to make.
The good news, however, is that if you are willing to throw away your ambition and the American dream and move to another state, you can make a great living taking welfare. A Cato institute study found that in 34 states welfare benefits yield more than a $20 an hour job. In an additional five states, it yields more than a $15 an hour job. In 38 states and D.C., welfare yields more benefits than the average starting salary for a secretary.
Given the numbers, one can’t help but wonder what message the Obama administration is sending to our generation: “Vote for me so I can make it harder to work and easier to collect from the tax payers.”
For those of you who want to be self-made and carry on your life’s ambitions, you are under assault by the massive social engineering of the left. If you want to make it on your own and not be impeded by big brother, do not place your faith in the current president.
