Loree’s brings Garfield’s atmosphere to downtown

While walking down Main Street, it can be easy to look past Loree’s Seafood and Steakhouse. It’s between 3rd and 4th Streets on Main St., the previous location of Dolce Vita. The smell of the restaurant from Main St. will lure you right in.

The restaurant is new, having just opened on April 12. Loree’s is owned by Sue Hammond, who also owns Garfield’s Off Broadway, a restaurant that has made quite a name for itself in Grand Junction for many years.

Loree’s is quiet and intimate. The atmosphere is pretty casual, yet romantic.

The service was fairly quick. I was also pleased to see that Loree’s carried my favorite Colorado brewed beer, 90 Schilling.
The food took some time to prepare, which was strange since the restaurant was nearly empty, but the meal proved to be worth the wait.

Being from New England, I’ve come to be quite the seafood snob, and I was happily surprised with the quality of the shrimp scampi. The shrimp were plump and noticeably fresh, marinated in garlic, white wine and sliced olives.

Overall, I was very pleased with Loree’s. The only thing I could suggest is that they incorporate something to draw more attention to their business. It doesn’t stand out very much on Main Street and can be easily ignored. That is a shame because everything else about the restaurant is quite impressive.
