The CMU softball team (26-15-1, 24-11-1 RMAC) wrapped up the regular season with four wins over Chadron State College to earn the No. 2 seed in the RMAC tournament.
The Mavs ended a three-game losing streak to give them a better chance of making the NCAA regional tournament.
“Our goal is to make regionals and meet the teams that beat us in Arizona,” junior Jessica Severinsen said. “These wins are very important because, with the top teams playing each other, you never know who is going to move in the standings.”
The three losses put the team in a bind heading in to the RMAC tournament. The Mavs must win the RMAC tournament in order to advance to regionals. The team is focused on what’s in front of them and playing one game at a time.
“If we would have won all games last weekend, we would have been in a great spot heading into the RMACs and regionals,” Ashley Pulido said. “Regardless of our seeding, we are going in knowing that every game counts, and we are excited to go show every team what we can do.”
Severinsen said the key for the team’s success is playing like there is no tomorrow.
“We need to leave everything on the field the next two weeks and have the confidence in each other to get the job done,” said Severinsen. “Finishing with these wins going in to the tournament is good and gives us more confidence that we can win the RMAC.”
The Mavs will start the RMAC tournament on May 2 at Colorado School of Mines in Golden.
