Editorial: Stay focused on goals as semester ends

It’s that time of year again. The sun is out a lot longer, spring fever is kicking in and nobody wants to be inside a classroom. We have been doing homework and essays all year, and we are getting tired of it. There are only two weeks of classes and then a week of finals and it’s summertime, so we can take it easy now, right? No way. It’s time all students and professors stick it out for the final stretch.

Most tests and assignments that can make or break final grades happen in these last few weeks. Studying and doing homework is more important than ever during these next few weeks. It is easy to relax, sleep in and not focus on why so many pay money to be here.

But it’s not meant to be three weeks of hell. For a lot, the time crunch gives students the extra bit of motivation to get work done. For those who wait until the last minute to start working on projects, the final minute has begun, and they are getting their work done. It would be silly to go to classes and stress over so many tests just to stop now and have to retake courses next semester.

But the last three weeks shouldn’t focus on just studies, even though it should be the top priority. Friends and classmates will journey home for the summer, and you won’t see them for at least three months. So make time to hang out and have fun, because it can be a rough time if you are missing your close ones.

And seniors, there are only three weeks left to be a college student. Day drinking is only acceptable for a few more weeks. Then it’s the real world. So do one, maybe two more things that you will remember or just have a blast doing, because the so-called greatest time of your life is down to its final moments.

So don’t pack up quite yet. It’s crunch time, CMU. Keep your hard hats on and blast through these last few weeks before you take it easy for a few months.
